X-Wing Modelling Technique.

I have decided to use an X-wing fighter as one of the models. I know that the turret was supposed to be from the rebels but I guess that will have to change!

To model the X-wing I found some blueprints in internet. I attempted to use the blueprints as textures for three planes (top, side, and front of the X-wing). I used Photoshop to cut the different views and save them as single pictures. Then I used 3 planes in 3ds Max and applied the textures to each of the planes. After align the planed properly I could start modelling the fighter.

Once I started I realised that the blueprints had too many lines and not a good resolution, hence the blueprints were a bit hard to follow and I got confused with a lot of elements.

Then, I found a video in Youtube(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQVaMQOe16M) of a guy modelling an X-wing in 3ds Max in 30 minutes (the video was speeded up to 4 minutes though). I couldn't use the video as tutorial because everything happens just too quick in it. But I liked the idea of modelling the X-wing from just a couple of primitives.

I will begin to model the X-wing that way and if I think I am doing a good job I will continue until its done.
